Applied anthropology is a subfield of anthropology that focuses on the application of anthropological knowledge and methods to real-world problems and challenges. Applied anthropologists work in various settings, such as government agencies, NGOs, community organizations and businesses. Applied anthropologists may work in many fields, including UX.

While applied anthropology and UX research may come from different backgrounds and focus on different types of problems and challenges, they both aim to understand the needs and experiences of people to design solutions that meet their needs. Applied anthropologists can bring a unique perspective to UX research by providing insights into the cultural and social contexts in which a product or service will be used and by helping UX researchers to understand how people from different cultures may interact with a product or service. In this way, applied anthropologists and UX researchers can work together to create products and services that are both functional and culturally sensitive.
